When EMS Group won the Dubbo Chamber of Commerce’s “Employer of Choice” Award in 2016, one of the reasons was its commitment to recognising and rewarding staff.
Annual team travel experiences are one way that EMS Group rewards its staff.
This year, male staff went to the races and deep sea fishing in Sydney, while the female staff spent a weekend in the Hunter Valley visiting wineries, breweries, a distillery and a day spa.
Why does a Dubbo-based labour and equipment solutions company want to offer its people an annual trip away?
“You cannot over-estimate the benefits to our business of having an engaged team who feel valued,” EMS Group Director Tom Cavanagh said.
EMS knows staff incentive travel is nothing new, but it’s a different cultural approach that makes the difference.
“I see AirBnB recently won a “best employer” award off the back of a generous individual staff travel offering, but that’s not what our annual staff trips are about,” he said.
“When we reward our staff it’s about sharing the success of the company – together. It’s a team building thing as much as it is a reward.
“We believe if you share those great experiences and create memories together, people look forward to coming to work.”
EMS Group Executive Assistant, Sharon Mansfield, says the trip to the Hunter was a great chance to get to know her colleagues better and in different ways.
“There was even a bit of time for the Hunter Valley Garden Tour, shopping and putt-putt golf. Not something we’d do together any other time!”
Tom said he could not be happier with the feedback he gets from staff about the annual staff trips.
